We've trained hard to be the best in our fields, and we continue to maintain and expand our knowledge and skills at every opportunity. We also strongly believe in mentoring those new to their field, via traineeships and work experience.
Shalini is someone who would be deemed a world traveller by any standards! Born in Malaysia and raised in Melbourne, Shalini spent five years in Perth pursing her degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. Shalini spent the first few years of her career in a small animal practise in Newcastle before a 3 year stint in the UK and finally some volunteer vet work in Asia.
Shalini joined the Dr Paws team in November 2016 and has since adopted an 11 year old Border Collie named Bonnie. Shalini is particularly interest in behavioural medicine, ophthalmology and dentistry. She believes that the greatest thing in the world is a well-mannered dog and loves working with owners to help achieve this. When Shalini is not at work, she can be found at the beach with Bonnie, on a road trip or in the great outdoors!
Jillian joined our vet team in June 2019. She has been practicing veterinary medicine for the past 8 years and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team that she has accumulated over the years. Growing up on a large property in north west New South Wales, Dr Jillian wanted to be a vet from a young age. As a proud paw-rent to her dog Sasha and a strong interest in small animal medicine, Jillian is sure to provide our furry friends with gentle and exceptional veterinary care.
Shona has been a qualified nurse for 13 years. She has joined us from New Zealand and has also nursed in Adelaide. Having now stepped into the role of Practice Manager, Shona takes great pride in ensuring that all patients, clients and staff members get the best care possible.
Prior to coming to Australia, Shona was a volunteer ambulance officer and volunteer fire fighter. She has a strong interest in our local volunteer community and gives a lot of her time to volunteer projects. Part of her continuing education includes canine behaviour and practice management.
Christine is our senior head nurse. She joined the Dr Paws team in 2016 after moving with her family from Melbourne. Christine has a wealth of knowledge, having been involved in the industry for 16 years. Christine supports all of our nurses and is responsible for training, as well as being in charge of running our well-oiled nursing team.
When she is not at work she spends her time with her rescue greyhound, Francine, enjoys sailing and fishing with her family, and has a special interest in permaculture.
Isobel completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2011. She has been a committed and dedicated nurse and is currently furthering her education studying human radiography. Isobel is a highly appreciated and integral team member and while we will miss her when she completes her course, we have every confidence she will make her place in the world!
While balancing her home life, work life and study, Isobel also cares for foster dogs. Her own pets include two ‘failed fosters,’ Ollie her dog and Polly her cat.
Tammy has completed a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and has over 7 years of experience in a variety of hospitals, including an emergency care hospital in Canberra. Tammy loves all aspects of her work but is particularly passionate about surgical nursing. She has recently started further studies towards her diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
Tammy loves an active lifestyle and her interests include scuba diving, cricket, catching up with friends and taking care of her temperamental Burmese cat 'Laila' and her more relaxed Tonkinese cat 'Lulu'.
Don joined the Dr Paws team in November 2016 and is a Certified Level IV Veterinary Nurse. Don has a special interest and aptitude for orthopaedics and has become an irreplaceable team member given his specialised skill set. He loves animals and has a passion for wildlife, even volunteering as a wildlife carer.
Don’s pets include 15 birds, three dogs and three cats! When he finally does get a break, he can be found paddle boarding, kayaking, competing in triathlons and is a dedicated husband and father. He will be pursuing his interest in pathology in the near future.
Angela’s great love for animals was her inspiration to become a Veterinary Nurse. She is passionate about her work and is constantly rewarded by the response of her patients. Angela was a Senior Veterinary Nurse in Sydney for many years before moving to Port Macquarie. She is especially interested in animal behaviour as well as surgical nursing. Angela leads our Puppy Preschool classes and is a wealth of information in this area.
Angela lives with her husband Adam, two young children and their two pampered pets, “Honey” the Burmese and “Fergi” the Groodle.
Josie is our number one receptionist! After working in the hospitality industry for five years, she joined the Dr Paws team in 2016. If you need to know anything, Josie has her finger on the pulse! She is more than happy to answer any questions and her efficiency keeps the clinic humming.
When she isn’t keeping everyone in order, Josie spends her time with her husband Michael, her cat ‘Kitty’, her two dogs Ruby and Scarlett and also her fosters kittens. If this isn’t enough to keep her busy, Josie also enjoys sewing, reading and is undertaking further studies in animal care.
